Spaarndammerhart

De nieuwbouw voor Spaarndammerhart is gebaseerd op de rijkdom van de Amsterdamse school traditie, waarin architectuur, kunst en natuur samengaan. Daarom werkten Kort Tielens Architecten en Marcel Lok_Architect voor dit woonproject samen met DS Landschapsarchitecten en beeldend kunstenaar Martijn Sandberg. Het plan brengt een straat terug die in de jaren ‘70 plaats maakte voor een school en voegt een besloten collectieve hof toe aan de buurt. Dankzij gemeenschappelijke tuinen en hergroepering van bomen, kijken bewoners van de nieuwe én bestaande woningen uit op volwassen groen. De uitvraag door de gemeente, die kwaliteit in het hele proces verankerde, speelde een belangrijke rol in de hoogwaardige kwaliteit van het eindresultaat.

De vakjury van de Dutch Design Awards zei over het project: 'Spaarndammerhart laat zien waar samenwerking tussen verschillende ontwerpdisciplines toe kan leiden: een bijzonder goed verzorgd en stedebouwkundig interessant project. Dat Korth Tielens en Marcel Lok voortborduren op de typologie van de Amsterdamse School getuigt van lef en heeft geleid tot een buitengewone schoonheid. Het stemt hoopvol dat in de huidige complexe woningmarkt er ook binnen gestandaardiseerde woningbouw zulke hoogwaardige projecten worden gerealiseerd; een compliment voor zowel architecten als opdrachtgever Heijmans Vastgoed. Het weefsel van de Spaarndammerbuurt is op veel vlakken uitdagend. Desondanks is het gelukt om architectonische waarde én woonkwaliteit toe te voegen, mede dankzij goed opdrachtgeverschap en zorgvuldig en liefdevol ontwerpen.'

The new build for Spaarndammerhart is based on the richness of the Amsterdam School tradition, in which architecture, art and nature come together. This is why Kort Tielens Architecten and Marcel Lok_Architect worked together with DS Landschapsarchitecten and visual artist Martijn Sandberg on this residential complex project. The plan brings back a street that made place back in the ‘70s for a school, and adds an enclosed, collective courtyard to the neighbourhood. Thanks to communal gardens and the regrouping of trees, residents of both the new build and the existing homes look out onto mature greenery. The formulation of the assignment by the local council, in which a high quality throughout and the Amsterdam rain-proof policy were firmly anchored, played a significant role in the high quality of the end result.

Expert panel Dutch Design Awards:

Spaarndammerhart shows just what can come of a successful collaboration between different design disciplines: a particularly well-implemented and interesting urban planning project. The fact that Korth Tielens and Marcel Lok continue to build upon the Amsterdam School typology is testament to their courage and has led to the creation of an absolute beauty. It is encouraging that, in the current complex housing market, such high-quality projects can be realised within the standardised housing industry. The fabric of the Spaarndammerbuurt is challenging on many levels. Nevertheless, they have succeeded in adding architectonic value and quality of living, partly thanks to good commissioning and careful, loving design.
