Paardenmarkt / Housing

The project “Paardenmarkt” was completed in 2011. The project, situated on a historic location in the centre of Alkmaar, was a complete renovation and extension of the former cheese warehouse Eyssen. The monumental building was transformed into 22 dwellings for starters, two luxury penthouses, and an ingenious parking facility. The 2011 reconstruction and redevelopment of the Paardenmarkt and the Kanaalkade gave Alkmaar a “new” square. One which retains a sense of harmony with the city centre’s architecture. Paardenmarkt is a square situated on the water, as a living room of the town. Unity of living, commerce and public space. The buildings are for people with respect for history.
