Oslo Opera House (Norwegian National Opera and Ballet)

The Oslo Opera House is the home of the Norwegian National Opera and Ballet and is the largest cultural building constructed in Norway since Nidarosdomen. It's part of the city’s strategy to redevelop the historically industrial waterfront into a public space. This work is an example of a successful execution of this strategy.
The Opera House provides functional workplace for 600 people and the main auditorium has a capacity of 1364 seats including three horseshoe shaped balconies. It is 24 hours, 7 days per week open for visitors, making it a social monument rather than a sculptural one.
Most of the external surfaces are covered with white marble and Granite. The roof of the opera house angles to ground level, this way it creates the illusion that it’s coming out of the water. The roof creates a large accessible plaza for pedestrians which enables them to enjoy the external architecture, the water and the stunning panoramic views of Oslo.
