De Oostvaarders
The Information Center is located on the edge of one of the most unique nature reserves in Europe: the Oostvaardersplassen in Almere. The building houses an information center, a restaurant, a bird observatory and a classroom.
To minimize disturbance to the surrounding nature, the construction time should not exceed three months. Prefabrication was therefore a must and mainly for this reason the structure of the building was designed in timber. Being one of the first buildings in The Netherlands using Cross Laminated Timber. The CLT enable the walls to cantilever over the surrounding lake.
Het Natuurbelevingscentrum ligt aan de rand van één van de meest unieke natuurgebieden in Europa: de Oost- vaardersplassen in Almere. Het gebouw biedt onder meer plaats aan een informatiecentrum, een restaurant, een vogelspotruimte en een leslokaal. Om de omliggende natuur zo min mogelijk te storen mocht de bouwtijd niet meer dan drie maanden bedragen. Prefabricage was derhalve een must en mede hierom werd de constructie van het gebouw voor een groot gedeelte met kruislaaghouten elementen ontworpen. Hiermee was het ook mogelijk de gewenste overstekken en duurzaamheidsambities te realiseren.
