STC Waalhaven

The Scheepvaart & Transport College is distinguished by its renowned intermediate vocational education courses for specialist subjects. The culture of the STC is characterised by a fascination with the profession, a high level of commitment from the students, and a good relationship with the industry and daily practice. The students are encouraged and stimulated by making the practical application of their endeavours visible and tangible throughout the building, which breathes industry. This is done by using materials that refer to transport and technology, by making the simulation rooms visible, and by creating a view of the port of Rotterdam.
The main volume projects seven metres above the double-height entrance up to the edge of the Waalhaven Zuidzijde, establishing the College’s prominence. The front of the building is transparent, creating a shop window advertising to the world what the STC has to offer. The exterior areas of the new and existing buildings are merged into one, connected by a wide staircase. The recess areas are formed by terraces at different levels that link to the restaurant and lounge. Together they bring everything together in a single campus.
