Swimming pool Ameland

General
Two adjacent domes form the roof for the public swimming pool of the village of Nes on Ameland, one of the Wadden Islands. Both domes have a free span of 40 meters. At the front the roofcovering is opened up for the purpose of creating an entrance and allowing daylight to enter the building. In the chlorine-containing en- vironment of the pool, the choice for a timber structure was evident.
Lüning Consulting Engineers, as engineer for the timberstructures, optimized the overall design of the dome and was responsible for the detailled design of the timber structure and the connectors.
